Has your student mastered the essential concepts of English grammar? Many independent and Catholic high schools include grammar in their 9th grade curriculum and most assume students have a strong foundation in basic grammar knowledge. Further, both the ACT and SAT test basic and advanced grammar concepts.
Grammar Basics and Beyond Course will review and strengthen existing grammar knowledge and teach new concepts required for success in high school and on standardized college tests. The teacher is a former 8th grade English teacher who uses an incremental and cumulative curriculum that starts with basic concepts and adds complexity, continuously reviewing concepts previously covered. This method has been proven to increase student comprehension and retention. Students will learn how to analyze a sentence (find the subject, verb, and all phrases and clauses), classify the sentence by its syntax (simple, compound, complex, or compound-complex) and by its purpose (declarative, imperative, interrogative). Students will also learn basic sentence diagramming and punctuation principles.
